ROBERT FROST AUDITORIUM
ROBERT FROST AUDITORIUM
Culver City, California
Completed in 1964, the Robert Frost Auditorium is a mid-century modern landmark in Culver City, celebrated for its sweeping concrete roof and distinctive geometry. After decades of use, the facility needed renewal to meet contemporary performance standards and educational needs while protecting its architectural legacy.
TheatreDNA led the performance planning and technical design, ensuring the 1,200-seat arena-thrust auditorium could serve both student productions and professional-level events. The team re-envisioned the performance environment with advanced lighting, rigging, and acoustics, while improving sightlines and audience comfort through reconfigured seating. In parallel, structural stabilization preserved the iconic roof shell and new building systems delivered efficiency, safety, and accessibility. TheatreDNA’s collaboration with the architects extended to backstage, lobby, and classroom spaces, integrating flexible support areas that enrich both daily use and large-scale productions.
Reopened in 2018, the revitalized Robert Frost Auditorium showcases TheatreDNA’s expertise in marrying technical innovation with architectural preservation. The project delivered a state-of-the-art venue that elevates Culver City Unified School District’s arts education mission and reestablishes the auditorium as a vital cultural resource for the wider community.
