CROSSROADS SCHOOL - BEZDEK CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica envisioned a new home for its celebrated performing arts program. The challenge was to replace the aging main stage with a modern, professional-quality facility that could support both student learning and public performance within the constraints of a compact urban campus.

SPF:a designed the new Bezdek Center for the Arts to unify the school’s arts programs within a single, purpose-built facility. The center includes a 650-seat main stage theater, 100 seat recital hall, flexible rehearsal and classroom spaces, and advanced production support areas. TheatreDNA collaborated to design state-of-the-art performance systems—lighting, rigging, and acoustics—that elevate both educational and artistic experiences. The building’s transparent, inviting architecture connects the arts to campus life, while sustainable strategies maximize natural light, efficiency, and long-term adaptability.

The completed Bezdek Center redefines arts education at Crossroads, blending professional-level performance infrastructure with an inspiring learning environment. It expands creative opportunity for students, strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration, and reaffirms the school’s commitment to nurturing artistic excellence in the heart of Santa Monica.
